Request to whitelist article on infinitygalaxy.org

[edit]

Hello, please add this URL to the whitelist. I am a petrochemical engineer and I wanted to write about some of the bitumen tests that are very important in the industry. I have also prepared a draft on penetration testing as a starting point and I want to expand it. I intend to use the content of this page because I believe It is comprehensive and covers all aspects. Thus, I request it to be added to the whitelist. Kind regards. AlexJan24 (talk) 06:27, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to cite this very useful list of "BPA Bans and Restrictions in Food Contact Materials" relating to Bisphenol A to the Wikipedia page Baby bottle. MaryMO (AR) (talk) 23:30, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@MaryMO (AR): plus Added to MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist (note for record/self: this was added because of a very long-term COI spamming campaign). --Dirk Beetstra T C 04:51, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request to whitelist article on breitbart.com

[edit]

This article references the recent discussion on deleting "Mass killings under communist regimes"; I am requesting whitelisting to allow this article to be noted on the talk page of the article and the talk page of the discussion. TE(æ)A,ea. (talk) 01:52, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@TE(æ)A,ea.: no Declined, that does not need a working link. --Dirk Beetstra T C 04:07, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • User:Beetstra, why does it not need a working link? The other news articles have working links. TE(æ)A,ea. (talk) 17:21, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So? This one is blacklisted because it should never be used in mainspace. The shortcomings of the spamblacklist extension make it impossible to stop other people from using it in mainspace (after all it is of interest to the subject). Moreover, the monolithic nature of the blacklist/whitelist makes maintenance already hell (we should clean up material on the whitelist that is not actually needed). Request to whitelist article on filmcompanion.in

[edit]

filmcompanion.in: Linksearch en (insource) - meta - de - fr - simple - wikt:en - wikt:frSpamcheckMER-C X-wikigs • Reports: Links on en - COIBot - COIBot-Local • Discussions: tracked - advanced - RSN • COIBot-Link, Local, & XWiki Reports - Wikipedia: en - fr - de • Google: searchmeta • Domain: domaintoolsAboutUs.com

  • Link requested to be whitelisted: filmcompanion.in/about-us

I would like for Film Companion to be whitelisted as it satisfies WP:RS, was founded by one of India's most notable film critics and has not been subject to credibility controversies (unlike Republic TV). In fact, many other notable critics too write for FC such as Baradwaj Rangan. --Kailash29792 (talk) 06:26, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Kailash29792, have you read the blacklist discussion about the spamming campaign? This is a tough call, this seems to be a generally reputable source, but there's clear evidence for undeclared paid editing to spam their reviews. That's not good. Ravensfire (talk) 15:27, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And as long as it's blacklisted, IABot does not work on it. Kailash29792 (talk) 16:30, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There's no question this is going to be a real pain, but look at the parameters in the URL examples, especially the utm_medium and utm_campaign. This was deliberate, intentional and without a doubt part of an undeclared paid editing campaign. Can we trust what they added to be a fair representation of the review as a whole or highlight useful parts of the review? I don't think so. This was a dumb move by someone at FC. Ravensfire (talk) 16:40, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Kailash29792: no Declined, whitelisting negates the blacklisting here, so then ask for delisting. But indeed, this is a tough call since this was spammed, and that eeds to stop. --Dirk Beetstra T C 20:24, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Kailash29792: plus Added filmcompanion.in/about-us to MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist (and that is already used in the document). Request to whitelist the root is still no Declined. The About-us can be used to identify the subject. --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:39, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Review 1 by Baradwaj Rangan

[edit]

Beetstra can you please whitelist just this link:

  • Link requested to be whitelisted: filmcompanion.in/reviews/tamil-review/soorarai-pottru-on-amazon-prime-video-suriya-and-aparna-balamurali-shine-in-a-solid-but-unspecial-drama/

as it is a review by Baradwaj Rangan? This isn't even the complete URL due to the blacklisting. I will only request for FC pages written by notable people (such as Rangan) for whitelisting with regards to WP:ATTRIBUTEPOV. --Kailash29792 (talk) 10:19, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request to whitelist page on airlinetimetables.blogspot.com/search/label/Eastwind

[edit]

After spending too much time watching Mayday (Canadian TV series) videos, the Eastwind Airlines Flight 517 article led me to the Eastwind Airlines article. At the bottom of the Eastwind Airlines article is a link to the defunct routemapsonline.com site, which some exploration with archive.org leads to the direct subject link, which contains a 1996 primary source timetable that substantiates some of the information in the article. Further investigation points to a sockpuppet investigation from ten years ago (c.f. Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Fcburns/Archive and 2011 Spam report). It's beyond my expertise to comment on the historic issue, but on its face the specific page does seem to be supportive and constructive to the underlying article (and if it would be helpful, I could analyze the article to add referencing to that primary source). —Pakman044 (talk) 08:22, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Pakman044: You state that you explored archive.org - is the relevant page on routemapsonline.com (which seems way too wide for the subject, see WP:ELNO - I have hence removed it as it is a 404/parked domain) available on archive.org? Besides the problem that it was spammed I am weary to link to such copies on blogspot when there is 'the official source' somewhere. --Dirk Beetstra T C 05:49, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My exploration on archive.org indicates that routemapsonline.com was used with domain masking, which inhibited the ability for direct linkage, but routemapsonline.com was actually used on top of the blogspot URL and is the actual source of the link (if you look at the actual links of [1], notice that they are to the blogspot.com site), so that is the "official source" of the primary source (i.e. someone who scanned in a printed timetable brochure from a defunct airline). A comparison of the destinations listed in the article shows that the destinations from the timetable do not provide any new supportive references (it discloses five destinations supported by other article citations, although one article citation has been lost to linkrot). Not having written this article myself, I do generally prefer to retain and rehabilitate primary references which can be used to show how things were at a specific point in time (c.f. Midwest Airlines#Midwest Express destinations in 1984 and Midwest Airlines#Midwest Express destinations in 2001, in which the article authors used the destinations to show the change in the airlines growth (or over-growth as it turned out) over time), and this link includes a primary source from the airline, which assuming that the airline wasn't lying about its routes, is the highest quality reference for that kind of information. Since the most narrowly tailored whitelist would only result in the whitelisting of this particular URL pattern, it would seem unlikely that the antagonists from over ten years ago would use that one URL to reinitiate a sockpuppet action. Although it wasn't originally my intent to refactor the article based on the information from the link (but rather just to fix what I found was a broken link), I would certainly be willing to do so in the interest of preserving the information in question (and well this comment here is probably longer than the amount of refactoring in question.) Thanks, Pakman044 (talk) 10:37, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Link requested to be whitelisted: https://youtu.be/GlRQjzltaMQ so the video of the song on YouTube can be shared on External links of The Way It Is (song) (the video is on the official Bruce Hornsby channel). BTW how has YouTube come to be blacklisted? I've never had a problem in the past. References to YouTube aren't blocked (an hour ago) so why are External links? DadaNeem (talk) 21 December 2021

@DadaNeem: no Declined, just use the expanded link as you probably did for the other links. the short youtu.be was spambot spammed, used to circumvent blacklisted youtube videos (youtube contains good stuff, but also a lot of useless crap, plain spam and copyvio material). --Dirk Beetstra T C 17:44, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Recently, Square, Inc. has been renamed to Block, Inc. Their new corporate website is now block.xyz and it is an official link. Request to whitelist page on infinitedegrees.xyz

[edit]

Infinite Degrees has a detailed action sports database where people can easily search for tricks and see what tricks riders have done. It should be whitelisted so that we can embed links detailing snowboarders, skiers, skaters, and surfers tricks and their video on wikipedia. bmichigan7 (talk) 18:43, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Bmichigan7: I have some additional questions here. Since you are saying that it is hosting videos of tricks I would like to hear a bit about the nature of the site: copyright status of material hosted, authority of the maintainers, etc. etc. .Xyz sites were blacklisted because of the ease of getting these TLDs, and the resulting spamming of sites which do not comply with our inclusion standards. We whitelist liberally, but do need some assurance regarding the general contents when whitelisting a whole domain. Dirk Beetstra T C 07:08, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Beetstra: Infinite Degrees claims ownership of all video that is being hosted on the site along with the data that is with it (this includes trick names and details, competition names, and athlete names). The site is used as a learning, research, and coaching tool for action sports. You can download the videos onto your own personal device, share them, or just like/rate a trick. The front end acts as a YouTube or Instagram for tricks, but the backend services APIs that access exclusive trick data. The site is run by people who work with the US Ski and Snowboard team to improve the overall understanding of action sports.--Bmichigan7 (talk) 08:56, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request to whitelist pages on yourstory.com

I am writing an article about Harsha Suryanarayana and I need these links to be whitelisted, so that I can cite them in the article.

Deepak Purti (talk) 11:08, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Deepak Purti: You understand what yourstory.com is, right? These are worse than primary sources, these are plain advertising links. Dirk Beetstra T C 05:50, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Beetstra: the company profile for YourStory on Bloomberg reads,[1]
YourStory Media Private Limited operates an online media platform. The Company offers profiles stories of entrepreneurs and hosts conferences, workshops, and meetups for business networking opportunities to entrepreneurs, as well as connects startups and talent through its job board. YourStory Media serves customers in India.
Mint, an Indian financial daily newspaper, describes it as "India’s largest digital media house for entrepreneurs".[2]

0mtwb9gd5wx (talk) 11:47, 23 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@0mtwb9gd5wx: no Declined. Why do you need a website that cites the book if you can cite the book directly? Or do you mean that the book that you want to link to is freely hosted on lulu so anyone can read it (in which case it is also not needed, you have full details for everyone to find a copy of the book)? --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:57, 23 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
