[edit]

Please change the message so that it corresponds with other interface messages with MediaWiki message interface names containing Cite error references **** key:

A list-defined reference with the name "$1" has been invoked multiple times with different content

@Eyesnore and MSGJ: I have never seen this message for a list-defined reference although it's possible it can also occur there. Previously we have only linked list-defined reference in cases where the default message in [1] says in <code><references></code> to indicate the problem is there. Edit request discussion

[edit]

This "edit request discussion" is discuss what can be done when an unsophisticated editor reaches this interface page, and sees nothing but a blank page with the title at the top. What should the editor do?--DThomsen8 (talk) 14:44, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Remove "Invalid <ref> tag" consistent with other modified reference error interface messages that originally contained it. It should read the following:

The named reference "$1" was invoked multiple times with different content

@Eyesnore: You made a similar edit request 3 years ago that was reverted for basically not having been tested. Could you please verify that in this case the message corresponds to a duplicate named reference? Secondly (on an aside), please correct your signature from [[User talk:Eyesnore|<span style="color:brown">snore</span>]] to [[User talk:Eyesnore|<span style="color:brown">snore</span>]]? --Izno (talk) 14:24, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Izno: It was never seen as a "list-defined reference"; I misunderstood it as a list-defined reference when I made an edit request three years ago because of its position on the help page. The "Invalid <ref> tag" on the starting part should be removed with other modified messages. This should indicate that the named reference was invoked multiple times, but with different content in them when defined more than once. Eyesnore 14:52, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Izno: I forgot, "invoked" should be "defined", as "invoked" does not make sense for that context. Can you please change "invoked" to "defined" here? Eyesnore 16:33, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
