"Joy to the World" is a Christmas song by Bini. It was released as a digital single on November 14, 2024, through Star Music. Produced by Moophs and Anna Achacoso–Graham, it is a cover of Isaac Watts's Christmas carol of the same name.

Background

[edit]

In July 2024, Bini released their song Cherry on Top, which is said to become part of an upcoming local album.[1] The single achieved commercial success shortly after its release. It topped iTunes Philippines' Top Songs chart and became the top trending music video on YouTube.[2] Within 24 hours, the music video amassed over two million views on the platform.[3] Two weeks after its release, "Cherry on Top" debuted on Billboard Philippines charts, ranking eighth on the Philippines Hot 100 and fifth on the Top Philippine Songs chart.[4][5] Later in that month, on July 27, Bini performed the song at KCON 2024 in Los Angeles, marking the first performance by a Filipino pop group at the event.[6]

Following the successful release of "Cherry on Top", Bini announced the release of the standalone digital single "Joy to the World" on November 8, 2024.[7]

Composition

[edit]

The song was produced by Anna Achacoso–Graham and Christopher James Moore Lopez, with composition by Achacoso–Graham and Moophs. It is a cover of Isaac Watts's original Christmas carol from 1719.[8]

Music video

[edit]

The music video features animated versions of Bini members—Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena—preparing for Christmas in the Philippines. Group leader Jhoanna assigns tasks to each member while Aiah’s cat observes the activities. The members are shown engaging in various holiday preparations, including decorating a belén, hanging Christmas ornaments, and preparing traditional Filipino Christmas foods such as puto bumbong, bibingka, and queso de bola. The video also highlights festive customs like hanging stockings and displaying Christmas lanterns. It concludes with the group going to bed and waking up on Christmas morning to find gifts under the tree.[8]

Promotion and release

[edit]

Bini announced the song on their social media platforms, with the caption, "Christmas is fast approaching, and we guess you've found our present! Our own take on 'Joy to the World' is coming soon!" The post also included a snippet of the track featuring Aiah, Colet and Maloi.[7] To promote the track release, Bini shared a series of cover artworks on their social media accounts, featuring animated depictions of each group member. On November 14, Bini released the song alongside the music video.[9]
