If You Think You Can, You Can! (Chinese: 地才) is a live video album by Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai, released by EMI on June 8, 2007.[1] The album features select live performances from Tsai's Dancing Forever World Tour, which took place at Taipei Arena in Taiwan from November 17 to 19, 2006. Additionally, it includes a tour documentary and four music videos.[2]

The album achieved commercial success, selling over 120,000 copies in Taiwan,[3] and was ranked as the top-selling video album of 2007 by Five Music in Taiwan.[4]

Background and release

[edit]

On September 15, 2006, Tsai kicked off her second concert tour Dancing Forever World Tour at Hong Kong Coliseum.[5] On May 14, 2007, EMI announced that a live video album of the tour, titled If You Think You Can, You Can!, would be available for pre-order starting May 25, 2007, with the official release scheduled for June 8, 2007.[6] The album features highlights from her performances at Taipei Arena during the Dancing Forever World Tour held from November 17 to 19, 2006, as well as a documentary about the tour and four music videos from the album Dancing Forever (2006).[1]

On June 11, 2007, Tsai held a promotional event for the album at Taipei Arena.[7] Two days later, on June 13, EMI announced that the album had sold over 100,000 copies in Taiwan during its first week of release.[8] On June 17, Tsai held an autograph session in Taipei.[9] The album debuted at number one on both the G-Music and Five Music video album sales charts in Taiwan during its first week,[10][11] and it went on to rank second and first on the annual video album sales charts of G-Music and Five Music, respectively, for 2007.[12][4]

Title and artwork

[edit]

The title of the album was inspired by a review from the China Times following Tsai's performance at Hong Kong Coliseum during the Dancing Forever World Tour. The article emphasized that Tsai's success was the result of hard work and gradual effort, rather than innate genius. It stated, "Jolin Tsai is a self-made talent, not a genius like Faye Wong or Jay Chou. Everything she has achieved is the result of relentless effort. She is like many of us, hoping that diligent work will yield results. The reason for her success is that she has worked many times harder than the rest of us."[13] In response, Tsai remarked, "Some geniuses fade away halfway due to arrogance and complacency, while some 'self-made talents' put in the hard work and effort, making themselves stand out and becoming legends. In the end, as long as one persists, the difference between a genius and a 'self-made talent' can be negligible."[14]
