Description
English: Fossil shark tooth from the genus Squalicorax. The Coleraine Formation is a Cretaceous period geological formation in Minnesota that contains fossils from the Western Interior Seaway approximately 90 million years ago. This layer was exposed by iron mining on the Mesabi Iron Range. This fossil was found by Stephen Monson Geerts at Hill Annex Mine State Park in Calumet, MN. The fossil was collected for the Hill Annex Paleontology Project which is partnered with the Minnesota Discovery Center and the Science Museum of Minnesota. The image was taken with a ZEISS Smartzoom 5 microscope at 182X magnification using stitching and extended depth of field.
