@Pinoyagent11, LIUC11sofie, LoreP12345, Kishirot, Georgeliuc11, Kassik27, and SpriteMedicina:

  • text has been inserted above the draft banner tag. This tag needs to be moved to the top of the page: AfC submission|t||ts=20241025154652|u=LIUC11sofie|ns=118|demo=}}
  • note the guidelines and good practice on lead (or introductory) sections, and look at good practice on other pages. See: Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section. Use this to develop this section. See also Wikipedia:Writing_better_articles#Lead_section.
  • the first sentence is in Italian and needs fixing - Fixed
  • other related festivals section needs to embed any relevant links to other pages e.g. to Palio di Siena - Fixed
  • Needs an Infobox: find a relevant Infobox template from Wikipedia:List of infoboxes and Template:Infobox recurring event, and use this templare correctly, or find a similar page with a relevant Infobox, and use this. Note that these are templates with rules on how they are used and for acceptable field content/format
  • there are no references for any of the limited content. Don't add content without sources.

Template:Infobox recurring event, I don't really understand, should we insert the infobox in the draft? Kassik27 (talk) 18:45, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
yes Limelightangel (talk) 20:41, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I added a small infobox, can this work? Would you have any advices on what to add eventually? Pinoyagent11 (talk) 22:43, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • note and use the guidelines and good practice on lead (or introductory) sections and look at good practice on other pages. See: Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section. See also Wikipedia:Writing_better_articles#Lead_section
  • there are fundamental issues referencing standards:
    • do not duplicate references in the final list:refs 1, 14, 15; refs 18, 18. Use the Named Reference tool and/or the ref name tag to create multiple text citations to a single reference at the end. See Wikipedia:Naming references for beginners and look at how its done on other pages - Fixed
    • many references have no correct link out to the web sources, formated as website sources
    • cite templates have not been used properly, with several missing fields, including Journal numbers, publishers, ISBNs, etc.
    • if you state 'Economists suggest' then the source is required
  • linking: See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Linking
    • you cannot link out to pages that do not exist on the English platform. Fix the link in red - Fixed
    • you link out once, the first time the linked text is used - Fixed
  • the page needs relevant and acceptable images
  • use the conventions on use of non-English terms e.g. '(sbandieratori)'
  • structure: sort out the structure, particularly the relationship betweeen History and Origins. The latter is far too late, probably the first sub-section of History - Fixed
  • inappropriate style: e.g. 'a remarkable win'; 'a historic double triumph'; 'Another well-known';'Apart from';'another'; etc. Understand why, and see wikipedia:Manual of style, particularly on vocabulary
  • check grammar: 'La Repubblica'? 'contrade'? 'the Castellanza area has had a continuous presence'; etc.
  • inconsistent use of italics and incorrect and inconsistent use of bold. Check and use the conventions. See [[2]] - Fixed
  • duplication: 'annual' and 'held every year'
  • missing sources for 4 paragraphs in the History and the lead section

Questions

[edit]

the section "Awards and Recognition" says that it won the Cultura Viva Award in 2021, but from what I have found the last episode of this Palio was in 2014, and since then it has never been cited from anywhere. Another discrepancy that I found was in the section "Noteable Moments or Highlights" which says a notable event about a contrade in 2005, and from what I have found the Palio was established only in 2010. That's all, maybe i am wrong that's why I'm asking. Oh obviously I tried to go through the references but i didn't find anything. Kishirot (talk) 22:15, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

haven't found any good sources for anything before 2010 and after 2014, if we cant confirm that it is correct then just remove it LIUC11sofie (talk) 12:40, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Pinoyagent11, LIUC11sofie, LoreP12345, Kishirot, Georgeliuc11, Kassik27, and SpriteMedicina: There are c. 50 issues that need addressing in the feedback posted on 14/11/24 Limelightangel (talk) 11:16, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page style

[edit]
  • Note the guidelines on Talk page use, including style, spelling, structuring the discusions and signing all posts:Help:Talk_pages. Avoid the personal tense where possible ('I', 'we', etc.) and inappropriate language ('hi guys'). Talk is visible to other editors, so it needs to be clear who is saying what, and 'we' will mean nothing to them. 'get a better grade for the project' is inappriaste here. To sign posts you can use the 1 click option below the editor space, or simply add the 4 '~' symbols manually. You can edit Talk pages to correct your content.

Feedback 14/11/24

[edit]

@Pinoyagent11, LIUC11sofie, LoreP12345, Kishirot, Georgeliuc11, Kassik27, and SpriteMedicina:

  • Infobox: the template Template:Infobox recurring event permits more information, including an image.
  • lead section: note the guidelines and good practice on lead (or introductory) sections, and look at good practice on other pages. See: Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section. Use this to develop this section, which needs to establish notability, with sources, and summmarize the topic without duplicating later content. See also Wikipedia:Writing_better_articles#Lead_section. As an example, Palio should be mentioned as a linked term here, not later in the page; the text here on 'Each district is historically associated with an oratory or church, many of which date back to at least the 16th century.' should go in the 8 Districts section, not the lead; etc.
  • Linking: see Help:linking
    • the text lacks a good range of relevant links out across the whole page
    • you link out once when the linked term is first used
    • do not duplicate links
    • avoid over-linking. Understand what to link out to, and why.
    • do not link out to external websites from the text. Consider using these as external links e.g. Palio di Asti
  • images:
    • captions: See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Captions. All 7 vertical images needs better captions, that include the location, avoid repetition and differentiate each.
    • these images run in to the next section, and need better locating and formating with relevant adjacent content - some sub-sections in the Events section could help resolve this
    • the captions 'Location of Palio di Castellanza inside Varese' and 'Music preformens 2014' are grammatically incorrect
    • there are 14 images in the first half of the page, then none in the second. Consider a balanced and limited use of images throughout the page. A better structure will help, using these images in different places and/or putting some in a Gallery section. See Help:Gallery
    • images in the Eight Districts:
      • there are only 7 images for 8 districts, and perhaps an image of just one of the teams is enough for this section?
      • these images are too large, have no captions, and formatted for excessive vertical scrolling. Consider better formatting options.
  • structure:
    • there are far too many section headings. Better use can be made of fewer section headings and relevant sub-headings within these e.g. a sub-section on military reenactments with the relevant image captioned for this and located with this sub-section, etc. See Help:Section
    • Organization and Funding needs to be an earlier sub-section within a broader section. - Fixed
    • Significance cound be a section with sub-sections on cultural and economic significance, etc.
    • Future Developments and Plans could be the final sub-section in a better history section - Fixed
    • Noteable Moments or Highlights should be removed or included in the currently poor history section - Fixed
    • military reenactments occurs in 2 places in events and is better in one place, perhaps as a sub-section
    • before submission the page needs adding to Categories. See Help:category
    • the page needs sections on See Also and Exeternal links. Understand the differences between these two different page elements, and how they are different to links from the text and references. See Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Layout#"See_also"_section and Wikipedia:External links. See how it is done on other pages
    • significant duplication across the page:
      • e.g. 'The event is significant for its preservation of local identity and Italian medieval traditions' is repeated in different forms in several places, but not used in the lead section, where it belongs - Fixed
      • content on Monsignor Roberto Colombo is duplicated in both History and culture sections - Fixed
    • the History section needs restructuring to be a chronological history, not moving from 1541 to 1974 to 1904 to 1240 to the Italian Renaisance. - Fixed
    • the text 'In addition to commemorating the city’s history, the Palio integrates local customs, sayings, and folklore, representing the cultural fabric of Castellanza. Commonly used expressions, traditions, and proverbs exchanged during the Palio reflect daily life from past centuries, revealing the values and beliefs of the Castellanza community' is not about the history of the event and should be in a different section - perhaps related. to culture? - Fixed
    • That 'Historical records show that this competition structure has remained mostly unchanged since the 17th century' belongs in History, not 8 districts? - Fixed
    • explain and link '("contrade" in Italian)' where the term is first used, not later - Fixed
    • The Eight Districts could have a better heading e.g. Festival Structure/Organization or similar
  • references:
    • All refererences: be consistent and clear in showing if references are to non-English sources
    • ref. 2 and 4 link to incorrect sources
    • ref. 3 is incorrectly formatted and the link does not work
    • ref. 5 is in English but the source is in Italian
    • ref. 7 poor source
    • refs. 4 and 8 link to the same source
    • ref. 8 is better as an external link
    • ref. 11, 12, 14, 21 - links do not work
    • ref. 15 has a missing author (e.romano )
    • ref. 16, 18, 24, 26, 29 - are formatted incorrectly and the links do not work
    • ref. 22 is formatted incorrectly
    • ref 25, 27 and 28 have no publishers and missing journal part details
  • content:
    • repetive and contradictory content in lead and History section: 'is an annual event held in Castellanza, Italy,' and 'is an biennial event held in Castellanza, a town in the Lombardy region of Italy.'
    • content irrelevant to this page? 'Historical accounts indicate that the Castellanza area has had a continuous presence since 1541, the year in which documentation of births and deaths began. The city was legally constituted in its current form after May 1, 1869, when Castegnate was merged to create a unified municipality. By 1974, Castellanza obtained official recognition as a city, marking an important landmark in its growth'; 'The bridge constructed over the Nord Milan railway from 1882 to 1887 was another significant project, connecting Castellanza with neighboring areas and promoting trade and travel.'; - needs relating to the page topic or removing
  • text formating: be consistent and follow conventions on the use of italics, bold and other formating e.g. 'The Palio di Castellanza; 'contrade'; etc. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Text formatting - Fixed
  • check all grammar: 'hounors'; etc.
  • style:
    • avoid subjective, redundant and biased language. See section on Vocabulary in Wikipedia:Manual of Style and Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Words to watch
    • avoid words/phrases like e.g. 'recent years, ' (three times); 'firmly grounded'; 'rich past'; 'Notable landmarks'; 'In addition to' (twice); 'showcasing'; 'you can take part'; 'Throughout the event'; 'spectators can enjoy '; 'offer a taste'; 'also includes '; 'not only decorative but '; 'proudly displays'; 'carefully crafted'; 'highlight a strong emphasis'; 'really started to highlight '; ' For instance, you might see huge'; 'carefully selects '; 'undergo rigorous training'; 'a substantial contributor'; 'has also established'; 'prestigious institutions'; etc.
    • remove content that offers subjective interpretation of facts e.g 'These digital initiatives reflect the Palio’s adaptability to modern expectations while preserving its traditional values'; 'representing the cultural fabric'; 'revealing the values and beliefs of the Castellanza community'; 'making it a big part of the festival. '; 'turning art into a cool way to tell the town’s stories.'; 'This friendly rivalry fosters a strong sense of local identity and echoes '; 'Italy's iconic palio competitions'; 'These celebrations act as a bridge to the past, ensuring that each generation gains a deeper understanding and appreciation of Castellanza’s rich heritage.'; 'Economists suggest that festivals like these generate jobs and support local products, reinforcing the region’s economic resilience. '; ' allowing academics and the general public alike to gain insight into the cultural significance of such events. This exchange of knowledge between the festival and academia not only enhances the Palio’s educational scope but also strengthens its reputation as a valuable cultural asset'; 'The Palio di Castellanza places a high priority on safety and security, ensuring that both participants and spectators enjoy the festivities without incident.'; 'strict guidelines ensure humane treatment and animal welfare.'; ' highlighting Castellanza’s commitment to ethical practices within traditional festivals. '; 'ensuring smooth access for visitors.'; 'substantial media attention'; 'play a significant role in reaching global audiences. This media presence has significantly boosted its visibility, drawing more tourists each year.'; etc. Some of this needs to be removed and some could be rewritten in more objective and factual vocabulary.
