Draft article source discussion
[edit]@CFA: You rejected my article Draft:Casa del Oro even though it had 9 citation and is listed as a California Historical Landmark. I'am OK with your accessment and would like to improve the article to pass next time. What do you think about the following sources:
- "Casa Del Oro Adobe – The Boston Store".
- "Casa del Oro, Monterey".
- "The Joseph Boston Store's past comes to life with pop-ups, local products and a vision for the future".
I think one of the above and the Norkunas book citation already in the article should cover what you are talking about for indepth coverage. If you have any other suggestion, please let me know.
Thanks for your input! Greg Henderson (talk) 16:55, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
- The first source is from the MCHS; there seems to be close coordination with this institution on many of these drafts, and evidence of COI. Additionally there is a large hatnote on the source stating
The articles in this section were written by several authors between 1995 and 2005. Many pages are identified as “under construction,” and additional essays were planned but not completed. These articles reflect the available information and historical perspectives of the authors and the time when they were written. They have not been revised or updated. They do not necessarily represent the views of the Monterey County Historical Society, its board, volunteers, or staff.
Not a reliable source. - The second source, GPSMyCity is user-submitted content, a low quality primary source. "Sources" like this should never be used.
- The third source is an advertorial, akin to native advertising to promote
EVERYTHING OLIVES pop-up tasting noon-2pm March 7-10. Joseph Boston Store, 210 Olivier St., Monterey. Free. historicgardenleague.org.
- The Norkunas source is yellow-flagged for reliability with the message
Preprint or general repository which may or may not contain unpublished, self-published or predatory materials.

@Netherzone:, I appreciate your quick feedback! Here are two other articles that I think will pass muster:
- "Moon Monterey and Carmel". pp. 40–41. Retrieved 2024-08-05.
- "california's historical monuments". Retrieved 2024-08-05.

- Greg, you were specifically called out in not so distant past for sourcing things to Lynn Momboisse voicemap.me walking tour and we're revisiting the same issue again. You are experienced enough that you should have known better that GPSMyCity is a source of the same nature.
- Greg, when you go through airport screening and they reject things, that's not an invitation to try bringing it in again on next flight when you have a different screener, but that is the Wiki equivalent of what you're doing, preying on the reviewer/screener not catching it. This source is a press release mascarading as an article, "Monterey adobe tours and festivities scheduled", Refreshments will include the (blah blah blah)...an added wine and cheese social at Perry house is not included in the tour ticket price. Cost is $2 for the event.....Tour tickets are $6.50 for adults, $3.50 for students...etc.)
It is an advertorial. It is not significant coverage. Netherzone (talk) 01:14, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
Completely unacceptable sources
[edit]@Greghenderson2006:, you're freaking kidding with this, right? This kind of sourcing is something editors making their first couple of edits get warned about.
