Early life and education
[edit]Ishii graduated from the Kuwasawa Design School.[1]. He initially started his career as an object artist and received the Yamamoto Kansai Prize at the Tokyo Parco Object Exhibition in 1987[1].
Career
[edit]In 1996, Ishii launched his fashion brand "YASUYUKI ISHII"[2], and has since showcased his work domestically and internationally. His career has taken him to Paris, Milan[2], and Copenhagen[2]. Ishii has also designed costumes for famous artists and created interior designs for flagship stores[3]
Style and design
[edit]Ishii’s works, emerging from his career as an object artist, are characterized by non-traditional and innovative designs. Handcrafted from leather parts, wires, and bolts, these pieces are praised for their unconventional yet modern sophistication [2]. Ishii’s designs rely heavily on a delicate manufacturing process, and he expresses his gratitude for the craftsmen who painstakingly hand-make the garments, stating, “This is thanks to the craftsmen who enjoy sewing the time-consuming process.”[4]. His commitment to originality and continuous challenge to conventional concepts have garnered support from celebrities and artists both domestically and internationally.
