World News (ワールドニュース, Wārudo Nyūsu) is a Japanese television news program which features news bulletins from around the world interpreted in Japanese and airs on the satelite channel NHK BS. The program airs in bilingual audio, meaning viewers can also watch the newscasts in its original language.
World News began as a segment in the news program Kyō no Sports to News (Today's Sports and News), which ran from 1984 to 1986. It first aired on 27 December 1986 and was renamed World News Hour (ワールドニュースアワー, Wārudo Nyūsu Awā) from 2000 to 2011. World News was replaced by World Wave from 2011 to 2014 which follows the same format. Many clips from the bulletins are used in Catch! Sekai no Top News (Catch! The Global Top News), which mainly shows the main news stories from its broadcast partners. They even air in the segment "Wow! The World" in Kokusai Hōdō (International News Report) and "Sekai no Media Zapping" in Ohayō Nippon.

Notes
[edit]- ^ NHK BS1 suspended airing programs from VGTRK during the Russian invasion of Ukraine and replaced with Suspilne's English languge news bulletins from its international YouTube channel, though the former broadcaster's reports continues to appear in other NHK News programs.
- ^ NHK stopped airing regular broadcasts of ARD's Tagesschau since April 2019, though it rarerly airs as a supplement if ZDF's Heute runs short.[3]
- ^ When it was aired during the Soviet era it was listed as Vremya (ブレーミア), the program name instead of its broadcaster, Soviet Central Television (CT USSR).[11]
- ^ Listed as 'Middle East' (中東)
