[edit]

Whitsett is an Christian emo band based in Nashville, consisting of Ryan Ward, Taylor Moser, Emma Privette, Cody Woodell, and Anthony Thigpen.

History

[edit]

Beginning (2012-2019)

[edit]

Whitsett began in 2012 as a creative outlet for songwriting friends, Ryan Ward & Taylor Moser along with drummer Jefferson Bullock. Through the 2010's Whitsett would release music at random often changing styles per release. Starting with an emo sound, the band released a "synth-pop" EP, a "80's pop" EP, and a "Surf-pop" EP before deciding to stick to a sound and take the band serious. (the bands previous sounds can be found on streaming services under the artist name, Second Down)

Returning to Emo (2019-2021)

[edit]

In 2019 Ryan & Taylor decided to to give the band an honest, recording 2 singles at the Smoakstack Studio in Nashville, TN. "Guys Love Girls (ft. Great Awakening) & "Please, Would Someone Turn On The AC" would release early 2020 to kick start the bands defined direction but shortly after the band was put on pause due to the global pandemic.

Social Media Boom (2022-Now)

[edit]

Through the pandemic Ryan & Taylor became more determined to make something work releasing a few singles in 2022 including "Parking Lots" featuring long time influence, Emery. After this Ryan would begin to take social media apps serious and try and grow a following that way. Because of the attention the band was getting on social media, the band was booked for Furnace Fest 2023. After announcing the band would release their first EP of this new age "These Things Seem Different" including the song "There Is No Map For This" featuring Aaron Gillespie (Underoath, The Almost)

In 2024, The band found their footing after branding themselves as "Youth Group Emo" and embracing a Christian theme in their lyrics.
