After graduating from [Fordham University](https://www.fordham.edu/), Hogan worked in the financial sector in New York City before serving as a U.S. Marine Corps Officer. In the Marines, Hogan was a Reconnaissance Platoon Commander and Intelligence Officer. Hogan studied government, graduated from [Harvard Kennedy School](https://www.hks.harvard.edu/), and announced his candidacy for the [Ohio Senate, District 8](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio_Senate#8th_district), in the November 5, 2024, General Election..[1].
Early Life and Education
[edit]Hogan was born into an Irish-German family in [Cincinnati, Ohio](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cincinnati), and raised in [Milford, Ohio](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milford,_Ohio). He graduated from [Summit Country Day High School](https://www.summitcds.org/) in 2002, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. Hogan committed to playing Division I football at Fordham University[2]. While at Fordham, he earned the University's Danowski Award for exceptional leadership. In his final season, Hogan became the first football player in Fordham's history to earn an accelerated master's degree in economics. During Hogan's career in finance and investing, Hogan's completed multiple industry licensing examinations and charters. He is a licensed Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA)[3]. Hogan's military education includes Tactical Air Control Party, Basic Reconnaissance, Scout Sniper Unit Leaders, Ground Intelligence Officers Course, and Infantry Officer's Course. Following his career in finance and the military, Hogan attended Harvard Kennedy School at Harvard University, graduating in 2023 with a Master of Public Administration.
Career and Military Service
[edit]After completing his education at Fordham University, Hogan was an Analyst at [Bank of America Securities](https://www.bofaml.com/en-us/home.html) and an Associate at Merrill Lynch in New York City, New York. Hogan was an institutional trader who specialized in a variety of financial products. While living on Wall Street and working in Southern Manhattan, the aftermath of the September 11th attacks, often referred to as "Ground Zero," inspired Hogan to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps. Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 2012, Hogan served as an Intelligence Officer for Combat Assault Battalion in Japan before transitioning to the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion in Okinawa, Japan. As a Reconnaissance Platoon Commander, Hogan led a special operations-capable unit of Reconnaissance Marines. As a Marine, Hogan spent two years overseas, deployed to numerous countries to support various Marine Corps missions. Hogan's decorations, awards, and badges include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He is also a two-time Sea Service Deployment Ribbon recipient. Hogan earned an Expert Rifle Badge and the Sharpshooter Pistol Badge.
After his military service, Hogan transitioned to [Fort Washington Investment Advisors](https://www.westernsouthern.com/fort-washington) in Cincinnati, Ohio, a Western & Southern Financial Group subsidiary. He was a Senior Investment and Portfolio Manager, overseeing multi-million-dollar portfolios for investors, corporations, and non-profit endowments. In 2017, during his time at Fort Washington, Ty joined the Honor Flight Tri-State board, assisting in sending Veterans to memorials dedicated to them in DC[4]. While working in finance, Hogan co-founded a multi-million-dollar real estate company, Pendleton Premier Properties, LLC., that owns and manages properties in Cincinnati, Ohio[5]. In 2023, Hogan joined the University of Cincinnati faculty as an Adjunct Professor of Economics. In his first full year, he was named the recipient of the 2024 Outstanding Adjunct Teaching Award in Economics[6]
Entry into Politics
[edit]Hogan is currently the Democratic candidate for [Ohio Senate, District 8](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio_Senate#8th_district), which includes the western and northern suburbs of Hamilton County, the eastern suburbs of Anderson Township, and neighboring areas[7]. Ty announced his candidacy on February 17, 2024.
Hogan has called himself a "centrist, moderate Democrat" and is generally considered a middle-of-the-road candidate. He has expressed that his political priorities in office are building a better economy for Ohio, cleaning up corruption after the Ohio nuclear bribery scandal (2020), and eliminating gerrymandering with an independent redistricting commission composed of citizens who are not elected officials or political insiders[8]
Personal Life
[edit]Hogan lives in Miami Township, a Cincinnati, Ohio, suburb, with his wife, Laura Schiller, and son, Timothy S. Hogan.
