Draft:Turkel Design

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Turkel Design is an architectural design firm that specializes in modern custom homes using panelized prefabrication. They provide residential architecture services to homeowners in any location by designing and manufacturing a building component package, which is shipped to the building site and assembled by a specialized crew or a local contractor.

History

[edit]

Turkel Design was founded in 2008 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, by Joel Turkel and Meelena Oleksiuk Turkel,[1] graduates of the Master of Architecture program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.[2] At MIT, Joel Turkel published his thesis on a new form of sustainable, culturally appropriate residential housing for the Arctic region;[3] Meelena Oleksiuk Turkel published hers on a system of customizable design for the three-decker house. [4]

In 2014 the practice partnered with Dwell magazine to introduce the Axiom Series of prefab home designs, as part of the Dwell Homes Collection, which range from 1,850 to 3,250 square feet and can be modified according to the client's specifications.[5]
