This incredibly beautiful natural area is located in the Samarkand region, 15 km southwest of the city of Samarkand, in the Okhaliksay valley. The oasis is part of the Zarafshan range, which stretches across the territory of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan for 370 km. The relief of the Samarkand region consists mainly of hills and low mountains located in the southern and eastern parts of the region. There are also lowlands.
The mountainous regions of the region are located at an average altitude of 700 to 900 meters above sea level. The average height of the territory is about 450 meters. The territory of the region, in addition to the oases, includes the Mirankuland Sarykul mountain ranges. The average annual temperature is +13°, the average temperature in January is about 0°, the average temperature in July is about +25°. Precipitation most often falls in spring and autumn, snow usually falls in winter.
The number of clear, sunny days significantly exceeds the number of cloudy ones. The most favorable period for visiting this region is the beginning and middle of spring. During this period, vegetation begins to bloom on the mountain slopes, and there are no signs of approaching summer heat yet.
Flora and fauna
[edit]The flora of the oasis is very diverse. Here, first of all, plants with nutritional value are widespread: camel thorn, wormwood, wheat, broom. Apple trees, rosehip, barberry, various types of nuts, and many types of medicinal mountain herbs grow in the wild. In spring, during the flowering period, tulip flowers are a kind of beautiful “Place of spectacle” for tourists. The huge tulip groves of this region amaze with their unique beauty.
Attractions of Okhalik and Okbuyro
[edit]Located at an altitude of more than 800 meters above sea level, the oasis is characterized by an abundance of sun, dry and clean healing mountain air suitable for the treatment of patients with respiratory diseases.
Several sanatoriums have been opened here: a children's tuberculosis sanatorium, as well as the Okhalik sanatorium, where specialized courses are held on the treatment of diseases of the nervous system, cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract and other wellness procedures.
The mountains of the Sakhalin Ridge are very popular as a hiking destination, for one-day and multi-day trips. Since the mountains here are low, even those who have never climbed the mountains can climb them. Excursions are organized for professionals to conquer more difficult peaks, such as Mount Kemkutan. There are several recreation areas in the village such as “Oqbo‘yroGarden”, “Hokimbobo”, “Oila”, “Sharshara” and others.
