Topper Jon Luciani (born 1982.[1][2]) is an American entrepreneur who started his first company reselling clothing in 2011. Forbes listed Luciani as the founder of Goodfair in the Forbes Next 1000 List[3]
Early life
[edit]Topper Luciani is originally from Woodbridge, Connecticut, in New Haven County.[4] He attended Hamden Hall Country Day School starting in 1987 through ninth grade in 1998[1]. Then he transferred to Avon Old Farms, where he graduated in 2001.[5]
Entrepreneur
[edit]Luciani says that growing up canoeing and hiking in the woods of Maine led him to become an environmentalist.[6] He also used to thrift his clothes. He saw reselling thrifted clothing as a business opportunity. In 2011, Luciani and co-founder Mark Kingdon created NiftyThrifty, an online retailer for pre-owned clothing. The company was funded with US$2 million in venture capital from various investors.[7] In 2015, NiftyThrifty closed its doors as collecting and cataloging clothes proved too costly.[8]
In 2019 , Luciani registered Goodfair Inc in Houston, Texas.[9]. By offering "mystery bundles", the company avoids cataloguing the items. Goodfair is said to have raised US$3.6 million in seed funding,[3] and it also raised at least US$1.4 million in debt funding.[10] A cooperation with luxury retail chain Nordstrom in 2021[11] was marketed under Nordstrom's efforts to raise sustainability. At this point, Topper Luciani was listed in the Forbes Next 1000 List[3]
Luciani cites the investors Charlie Munger and Ray Dalio as inspirations for his business philosophy.[12]
