Tianjin Eye Hospital is located at 4 Gansu Road, Heping District, Tianjin. Its predecessor was the Chinese and Western Society for the Prevention of Blindness, established in 1924 by the French ophthalmologist Dr. Jean Rousseau from the Beiyang Medical School. The society was a collaboration between Chinese and French faculty members and some students, which is why it was named the "Chinese and Western Society for the Prevention of Blindness"[1]. In April 1931, the Prevention of Blindness Hospital was established.
Today, Tianjin Eye Hospital is a specialized Grade 3A hospital in ophthalmology and is under the jurisdiction of the Tianjin Municipal Health Commission.
