Therapy Gecko or Lyle Forever is an entertainer and pseudo-therapy talk show host created by Lyle Drescher. The show, which started as a 2020 pandemic hobby in his mom's basement, consists of Lyle dressed in a gecko costume, taking live, unscripted calls from callers around the world. The discussions cover a wide range of topics including personal issues, philosophical inquiries, and everyday life, all delivered with a mix of humor, empathy, and surrealism.
Early Life
[edit]Lyle grew up in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland.[1]
Drescher graduated from Temple University in 2019.[2] While at the university he created an hosted a weekly stand-up comedy called The Cave.[3]
Therapy Gecko
[edit]Therapy Gecko started when Drescher had an idea for a Reddit stream during COVID lockdown. He switched platforms to Twitch shortly after. The stream is now available as a podcast on Spotify under the name "Therapy Gecko."[4]
Drescher has had many famous guests appear on his live stream and subsequent podcast, including Alison Wonderland[5], Doja Cat[6][7][8], Eric André[9], Bobby Lee[10], and Marc Rebillet.[11]
In 2022, Therapy Gecko was signed to Sirius XM.[12][13][14] Stitcher and SXM Media began distributing the podcast soon afterwards.
Starting in 2023, Drescher began an international tour doing a live version of the podcast where audience members would come on stage and talk with Drescher (who is always in full costume) about stories from their lives.
While traveling, Drescher has also done a version of his podcast on the streets with a sign that says "Talk to a Real Gecko," where he encourages passersby on the street to stop and talk with Drescher about his life.[15][16][17]
Therapy Gecko was a performer at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in 2022[18][19] and Electric Forest in 2023.[20][21] He participated in the Netflix Is A Joke Festival in 2024.[22]
Lyle was profiled by Vice[23] in 2024.
