Draft:The Tower Taniqles

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tower Taniqles is a small Canadian indie band formed in Southern Quebec in 2023. The group consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Zerua Upchurch (Skylar Masse), lead guitarist Archangel "Archie" Bedraget (Ashley Elmy), and drummer June Poulette (Juliann Sturgeon). Known for blending indie music with comedic elements, the band writes music primarily under the direction of Upchurch, with contributions from Bedraget and other collaborators.

Formation and Early Years The band formed when its members, all aged fifteen, collaborated on the track She² for a friend’s YouTube channel. Following the recording, Upchurch and Taniqa Nadeau (Taniqles) decided to establish the band. Initially, the lineup included Sarah Harrington (Stairsy) and Taniqles alongside the current trio. Harrington departed shortly after the release of their debut EP, She², while Taniqles left the group in 2024.

Releases The band released their debut EP, She², on January 5, 2024. The EP featured two tracks, She² and Grocery Competition, both co-written by Upchurch and Taniqles and featuring DK. The songs were described by the band as comedic, though Upchurch later expressed dissatisfaction with the project, citing production issues.

Rate of Change On March 24, 2024, the band announced their debut album, Rate of Change. Initially planned for release on May 23, 2024, the album was delayed to undergo revisions, reducing the tracklist from 17 to 11 songs. The removed tracks included Letters Home, Shipwreck, and a cover of Taylor Swift’s Mr. Perfectly Fine. The album is now expected to release in 2025, featuring tracks such as Orange Star, Escape Train, and Drown Your Sorrows. A demo version of Escape Train was briefly available on streaming platforms in 2024 before being removed in preparation for the album's release.

Musical Style and Themes The band’s music explores themes of love, particularly unrequited romantic and platonic relationships. While earlier works like She² leaned into comedic and experimental tones, their upcoming album signals a more introspective approach.
