Tamaz Khunjua (born 1987, Tbilisi, Georgian SSR) is a Georgian theoretical physicist, entrepreneur, and venture capitalist. He is a co-founder of the RPV investment fund, which supports startups in the field of Deep tech. His research focuses on dense matter phase transitions, low-dimensional models, and Quantum chromodynamics.
Biography
[edit]Tamaz Khunjua was born in 1987 in Tbilisi, Georgian SSR, into a family of scientists. He graduated with honors from the Moscow State University Faculty of Physics in 2010, specializing in theoretical physics. His diploma focused on phase transitions in quark matter.
From 2010 to 2014, he pursued his PhD at the Humboldt University of Berlin, focusing on phase transitions and dualities in quantum systems. In 2014, he earned his PhD in theoretical physics.
Between 2014 and 2019, Khunjua was a professor at Moscow State University, where he taught theoretical physics and mathematics. In 2019, he returned to Georgia and joined the University of Georgia as a faculty member, continuing his research and teaching.
In 2021, Khunjua co-founded the deep tech venture capital fund RPV, focusing on investments in advanced technologies and startups that drive innovation in science and engineering. He plays an active role in identifying and supporting groundbreaking technological advancements through this initiative.
From 2022 to 2024, Khunjua collaborated with CERN as part of the ATLAS experiment, analyzing high-energy particle collisions and modeling extreme states of matter.
Research Interests
[edit]Tamaz Khunjua's research focuses on several key areas of theoretical physics:
- Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD): Investigating phase transitions in dense quark matter, including chiral, isospin, and baryon asymmetries.
- Phase Transitions: Studying pion condensation, superconductivity, and dualities in complex systems.
- Low-Dimensional Models: Exploring applications of the Gross-Neveu and Nambu–Jona-Lasinio models to describe fermion interactions.
- Extreme States of Matter: Theoretical modeling of quark-gluon plasma and other high-energy phenomena observed in particle colliders.
