Susanne Zepp (born April 15, 1973) is a German literary scholar.

Life

After her M.A. in Romance Studies, Comparative Literature, and Modern German Studies at the University of Wuppertal, she served as a lecturer at the Institute for Romance Philology at the University of Wuppertal since 1997. She received her doctorate at Freie Universität Berlin in Romance Philology in 2002. From 2003 to 2015, she served as the Deputy Director of the Simon Dubnow Institute for Jewish History and Culture at the University of Leipzig, and from 2011 to 2023, she was Full Professor of Romance Philology at Freie Universität Berlin. In 2022/2023, she served as spokesperson for the board of directors of the Selma Stern Centre for Jewish Studies Berlin-Brandenburg. Since the summer semester of 2023, she serves as a University Professor of Spanish and Latin American Literatures at the University of Duisburg-Essen. In 2023, she was awarded the Spanish Order of Isabel la Católica.

Her research focuses on Spanish literature (Middle Ages, early modern period, 20th century), Latin American, Portuguese, and French literature (Middle Ages, early modern period, 19th and 20th century), literary and cultural theory, Jewish literatures, and law and literature.

Zepp is co-editor of the Romanistisches Jahrbuch (Yearbook of Romance Languages and Literatures). From 2019 to 2023, she served as President of the German Hispanist Association. She was a visiting scholar at Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2015/2017), visiting professor at L'École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in Paris (2018) and at the Casa del Hispanista of the Fundación Duques de Soria in 2020. She has been invited to Dartmouth College for the summer of 2025 as part of the Harris Distinguished Visiting Professorship Programme.

Zepp is a Henriette Herz Scout and a member of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's election committee for research awards.
