  • Comment: Substantial work is required on the referencing:
The references to Reid and Skinner shoudl be fully fleshed out with page numbers, please. This safeguards each as freestanding should the "base reference" be removed at some future date.
However, we have no interest in what Reid or Skinner have to say about ther own magazine. Nor is its website a useful reference. Each is counted as a Primary Source.
Pen South Africa is a recycled press release. We cannto accept it as a reference 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 12:31, 26 May 2024 (UTC)

Stanzas Poetry Magazine is South Africa’s only literary magazine dedicated to poetry. It is currently triannual, publishing poetry, reviews of poetry, and obituaries.

History

[edit]

Stanzas was started in 2015[1] by poets Douglas Reid Skinner and Patricia Schonstein following the closure of Gus Ferguson’s Carapace. Initially a quarterly magazine, Stanzas was published by Schonstein’s African Sun Press in association with Skinner’s Leftfield Poetry and the McGregor Poetry Festival.[2]

Patricia Schonstein left the magazine after issue 20[3] and from issue 21 the magazine became triannual while increasing in size.[4]

The magazine aims to contain “as wide a mix of voices as one can persuade to participate” while maintaining “An unending humbleness before the whole tradition of the art.”[5]

It takes its guiding principles from long-time patron Jonty Driver:

A literary culture requires reaffirming and renewing by each generation as it gathers in the inheritance of the past and weaves it into a future.[6]
