Somali Media Production, known as Som Production, is a private media company based in Somalia, specializing in video production, photography, and digital marketing. It was established on September 23, 2019.[1]
History
[edit]Digital media is a medium responsible for the development and shaping of reports and the general search for other information to be transmitted to society, and the media is divided into international and national.[2]
Despite the challenges posed by the 1991 central government collapse, Som Production established itself on September 23, 2019,[3] to meet the growing demand for professional media services in Somalia.[4] At the time of its inception, Somalia was in the process of rebuilding its cultural and social institutions following years of conflict.[5]
The founders aimed to create a media company that could authentically represent Somali stories and use media as a tool for positive change, with headquarters in Mogadishu.[6]
Som is a media content in video production, photography, digital marketing, events management, and seminars, aiming to promote education, businesses, and social services.[7]
As the world's media transitioned to digital platforms, the company adopted a forward-thinking approach, embracing new technologies and exploring different media formats to reach a wider audience.[8] Operating in Somalia involves unique challenges, including political instability, security concerns, and limited infrastructure.[9]
Som showed resilience and adaptability in handling these problems and has also built strong relationships with local and international organizations, which has helped the company overcome logistical challenges and maintain high production levels.[10]
Language and reach
[edit]Som broadcasts its programs in multiple languages, including Somali, Arabic, and English, ensuring that it reaches a diverse audience both within Somalia and internationally.
