Siôn Meirion Owens is a Welsh comedian and musician. He is best known for being the founding member and bassist of the Welsh rock band Y Bandana. He is fluent in Welsh and English and has performed stand-up comedy in both languages.

Early Life

Siôn grew up in Caernarfon and attended Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen.[1]. Siôn has an older brother, Tomos Owens, who was also a founding member of Y Bandana.

Siôn moved to study at Cardiff University in 2010, graduating with a master's degree in Medical Engineering in 2015[2]

Siôn and his brother Tomos formed Y Bandana in September 2007 by asking their cousin Gwilym to join their jamming sessions. The band played their first gig in Hendre Hall near Bangor in September that year[3]. Robin joined the band as a drummer after seeing them perform in Battle of the Bands that year.

The band achieved great success in the Welsh language rock scene and were recipients of numerous awards. The band announced they were disbanding in 2016. In 2016 the band had five songs in the 40 MAWR chart, which is a chart of listeners 40 favourite songs following a vote in the National Eisteddfod of Wales[4]

Siôn was also a founding member and lead singer for the band Uumar.

Comedy

Siôn performed stand-up comedy for the first time in 2016 as part of 'Cymryd y Mic', a challenge from the Welsh television show Y Lle where notable people were made to perform stand-up comedy. He continued to perform in Welsh and English, and filmed Pwnc Pum Munud (5 minute subject) for S4C Comedy in 2019 [5]. He also filmed a Welsh language stand-up special in 2019 as part of 'Gala'r Goreuon' [6].

He became an online content creator for BBC Sesh and in 2020 recorded the podcast 'Fy Nhro Cyntaf' (my first time)[7]. He starred as Gruff in the BBC1 sitcom 'Vandullz' in 2021 [8]
