Introduction
[edit]Shark Tank Thailand is Thailand business reality television series that premiered on August 22, 2019, on 7HD channel every sunday at 13.15. This is a franchise show from Japan called “Dragon’s Den” broadcasted on Nippon TV back in October 2001. The shows allow smaller business owners or SME to be able to meet the investors of “Sharks” for a short period of time to pitch their business and make an investment into their company. The investors act like sharks hunting for their prey in the ocean just like investors hunting for the business to invest in.[1]
Premise
[edit]In January 2005, BBC England bought the licenses of the shows and used the word “SHARK TANK” as the name of the show, and within the same year the show then expanded to Australia, which became very popular amongst the business reality shows. In September 2009, USA also have “SHARK TANK USA” was so successful that they won awards from many stages such as Outstanding Structured Reality Program, Creative Arts Emmy Awards in 2014, Best Reality Series in USA in 2014 and 2015, while SHARK TANK Canada also won Best Reality and Canadian Success Award in 2005, 2011, 2014, and 2015 as well.[2]

[edit]- Partner of Gobi Ventures Charini "Shannon Kalayanamitr" is in the startup industry for over 17 years, she started her own E-Commerce website called “MOXY” in 2013, which focused products for womens of all ages, before MOXY would merge under start up E-Commerce from Indonesia “Orami” in 2015 which she is still CMO for MOXY. She also partnered with many companies such as BOON RAWD TRADING COMPANY LIMITED and Gobi Ventures.[5]

Nishita, the eldest daughter, manages a diverse business portfolio ranging from shipping, pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements, construction, energy, mining, chemicals, aluminum production, hotels, agricultural exports, insurance brokerage, to software development and private aviation. The conglomerate's four subsidiary companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, namely Precious Shipping Public Company Limited, Mega Lifesciences Public Company Limited, Christiani & Nielsen (Thai) Public Company Limited, and Suthakaran Co., Ltd., collectively generated over 40 billion baht in revenue in 2017.[7]
Krit Srichawla
[edit]- CEO of FICO GROUP Despite having a family business in textiles, Krit Srichawla decided to start his own venture at the age of 17, borrowing 25 million baht from his grandfather, with some interest involved. He began by selling textile machinery and threads. However, the pivotal moment for Fico Group's growth stemmed from Krit's investments in prime real estate within his business district. Presently, he's the proprietor of hotels and office buildings strategically located along the BTS Skytrain route, owning no fewer than 13 properties including Interchange 21 at Asoke Intersection, Novotel Bangkok Ploenchit, Hotel Muse, and various boutique hotels. Moreover, Kris expanded his investment portfolio into the food and beverage industry by acquiring shares in EF Solution Capital, which oversees renowned restaurant chains like Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Domino's Pizza, and Kyochon Korean Fried Chicken.[8]
Natavudh Pungcharoenpong
[edit]- CEO and Founder of OOKBEE CO.,LTD. Moo Ookbee' is his moniker in the startup scene. He was among the pioneers of Thai startups, launching an online platform for selling e-books and magazines in 2010 and securing investments from InTouch Holdings. Nevertheless, the rapid evolution in media consumption habits prompted Nattawut to diversify his business endeavors. Thus, he established Ookbee U, a subsidiary within the Ookbee Group, focusing on the User-Generated Content (UGC) business model. With backing from Tencent, a Chinese firm, Ookbee U introduced brands tailored to diverse groups of readers and writers, including Thanyalai, Fictionlog, Storylog, Ookbee Comics, Fungjai, and most recently, Joylada, a highly popular novel chat application.[9]
Seasons
[edit]Shark tank is now on Season 4 (2024), in which the first season aired on August 22, 2019. Season 2 then started on aired on July 5th, 2020. This year the sharks has been changed to globalize the brand even further. The third season of Shark Tank Thailand then on aired on the 28th of August 2022, after the pandemic Shark Tank is now back on aired once again, with the total of 5 Sharks. The latest season, Shark Tank season 4 is now back on aired, which they aired the first episode on October the 1st 2023. Season 4 has been a great success, since the rating of the show has been increasing drastically from the previous seasons.
One of the standout pitches in Season 1 was from a group of young entrepreneurs who introduced a novel concept for eco-friendly food container solutions. Their company, named "Bioform" specialized in producing biodegradable food containers materials made from sustainable sugar canes. They showcased various products such as food containers, utensils, and packaging materials, all of which were designed to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainability in the food and beverage industry. The entrepreneurs emphasized the growing consumer demand for eco-friendly alternatives to traditional plastic packaging and highlighted the scalability of their business model. After an engaging pitch and negotiation, they secured a substantial investment deal with four of the sharks, who recognized the potential for their innovative products in both domestic and international markets. They closed the deal with what they wanted of 40 million THB for 20% of the company.
In Season 2, a standout pitch came from a social enterprise focused on sustainable fashion called “Lamitra”. The founders presented their brand, which produced eco-friendly clothing made from recycled materials and supported local artisans. They highlighted the environmental and social benefits of their business model, emphasizing the importance of ethical fashion in reducing waste and empowering communities. The sharks were impressed by the combination of social impact and market potential, recognizing the growing consumer demand for sustainable products. After a spirited negotiation, they reached a deal with a shark who shared their vision for promoting sustainability in the fashion industry. This partnership not only provided the necessary funding but also opened doors to new opportunities for growth and impact. In which they closed the deal with shark Krit Srishawla on 25% of the company for 600 thousand THB. This segment aired in episode 7.
In Season 3, one of the successful businesses from the show is called “Molly Ally”. Molly Ally is a plant-based gelato ice cream, the first of its kind in Thailand. Currently, it has seven branches and distribution points. This caught the interest of "Shark Krit," the real estate tycoon and founder of the Fico Group empire. He decided to invest 15 million baht into the business, acquiring a 37% stake. Additionally, he announced plans to create a new Thai ice cream brand to further grow and capture the hearts of customers in the country. This investment deal was made on the "Shark Tank Thailand Season 3," a globally renowned business reality show aimed at boosting Thailand's SMEs. This segment aired in episode 4.[10]

[edit]The show was produced by the company Media Tank and on aired on Channel 7 of Thailand
Media Tank co. was founded in 2019, which operates media business in the business category. They received a copyright from Sony Pictures to produce and broadcast Shark Tank Thailand, a reality show for global business.[11]
The show is also partnered with Tech Sauce is a media that provides content for Technology in the business world. Comprehensive within Thailand and Southeast Asia, which is also the first producer of a Tech Conference that connects Asian with the global. Tech Sauce was founded by Community Leaders in the startup community of Thailand and bond with Thumbsup.in.th, one of the first online media of Thailand and so HUBBA Thailand, a top startup community and Co-working space in Thailand. The show also partnered with the Office of Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion ( OSMEP ). Established under the Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Act, B.E. 2543, this entity operates as a state agency overseen by two committees: the Medium and Small Enterprises Promotion Committee, and the Office of Medium and Small Enterprises Promotion Management Committee. Its mission is to promote MICRO and SME development within both public and private sectors, enabling them to grow and compete globally. Moreover, it collaborates with the National SME Development Fund (NSDF) and the TV show "SHARKTANK THAILAND" to enhance support for entrepreneurs. The NSDF handles the promotion and recruitment process for Season 2 of the show, targeting its members. Additionally, the show's management team conducts selection and training sessions for interested members, preparing them for participation and potential investment opportunities from the Shark investors.[12]
