Satcat is an online platform allowing public and premium access to space intelligence, spaceflight safety and general astrodynamics tooling by American technology company Kayhan Space. This includes access to a searchable database curated from a variety of open-source resources and satellite-operations focused spaceflight tools. The service can be used to search for satellites, including satellites publicly cataloged by NORAD, produce satellite trajectories from states, calculate separation distances of multiple satellites, and design satellite orbits. Additional tools such as time-conversion tools and two-line element sets (TLEs, or more rarely 2LEs) or three-line element sets (3LEs) parsers are all available freely for the public.
The technology stack of Satcat includes proprietary software by Kayhan Space, Next.js, Carbon Design System, and CesiumJS hosted on Vercel.[1]
History
[edit]Satcat was first launched as an internal tool at Kayhan Space and is supervised by Hyun Seo, Vice President of Product at Kayhan Space.[2][3]
- The service was launched in May 2024 as Satcat with a Discord community.[4]
- In June 2024, Kayhan Space added space launch data, allowing users to track recently past and upcoming space launches.[4]
- In July 2024, Kayhan Space added Orbit designer on Satcat. Allowing users to design custom orbits and exporting them in TLE format.[4]
- In August 2024, Kayhan Space added the ability to support Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP) mission phases on Satcat with SpaceX Transporter-11 Rideshare mission being the first user.[5]
- In October 2024, Kayhan Space added the ability to view and track catalog-wide close-approach events between two satellites.[4]
