From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Please help me write a 2-paragraph introduction for a new Wikipedia article on the entomologist Samuel Ramsey

Sure! Here's a draft for the introduction:

Samuel Ramsey is an entomologist and assistant professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he holds the Marvin H. Caruthers Endowed Chair for Early-Career Faculty.[1] His work focuses on the health of pollinators, particularly honey bees, and the impact of emerging symbioses on their populations. His contributions to the understanding of the the honey bee parasite Varroa destructor brought light to the mechanism on how this parasite affects its host.[2][3] He earned national and international awards such as the Three-Minute Thesis Competition, the American Bee Research Conference’s Award for Distinguished Research, the 2021 Alumni Excellence Award from the University of Maryland College Park, the Acarological Society of America’s Highest Award for Advances in Acarology Research, the 2022 National Geographic Wayfinder Award recipient [4] and in 2024 the Lowell Thomas Award given by the Explorer Club to outstanding explorers. [5]

He established a nonprofit foundation, The Ramsey Research Foundation, to work towards removing barriers to scientific progress by developing novel pathways for funding and making scientific research more accessible to the public. He dedicates time to expanding science communication [1] by appearing in many media outlets including hosting an education YouTube channel.[2] In social media platforms he is known as Dr. Sammy. He has been featured on various media platforms, including Hulu's Docuseries "Your Attention Please," NPR, CNN, and CBS This Morning, where he strives to make science accessible to a broader audience.
