RK Chandan[1] (born 14 June 1993) is an Indian actor, writer, lyricist and film producer known for his work in Kannada television and cinema.
RK Chandan became a household name in Karnataka through his debut TV show Mangalyam Tantunanena (2018-2020)[2] which was telecasted in Colors Super channel. The show is still popular even after years of going off-air and fans of the show address him as "Teju" - the character name in the TV show. He has also played lead role in a telugu OTT project titled Mandakini(2023)[3] which is available on AHA.
Early life and family
[edit]RK Chandan was born on 14 June 1993 in Bengaluru, Karnataka, to RK Swamy and Lalitha as the youngest of their three children. He has an elder brother RK Punith and an elder sister RK Nayana. His mother tongue is Kannada.
He was attracted to the world of cinema during his schooling days after watching the Kannada movie Upendra, and considers Upendra Rao as his inspiration. He excelled in studies and extra curricular activities and actively participated in dance, dramas, and mono acting plays during his student days.
Before starting his acting career, he completed his B.arch degree at BMS School of architecture, Bengaluru. After graduating, he practiced as an architect at Designtude, Kabir Hira Architects and Centre for Design and Excellence.
Acting Career

[edit]After years of failed auditions, RK Chandan made his acting debut as a male lead in 'Mangalyam Tantunanena', a television series which aired on Colors Super. The show consists 500+ episodes and was highly popular during the time it was aired between 2018-2020. It was credited as the top most viewed regional show and fourth top most viewed Indian show on VOOT. Through this show he rose to fame as a heartthrob and became a popular star in Kannada television industry.
He also made his debut in Telugu with a OTT mini series, Mandakini, available on Aha. Mandakini[4], was also a successful project and his portrayal as Arya, garnered him positive reviews.
Movies
[edit]RK Chandan[5] made his big screen debut in 2023 with a negative role in Aditya Shashikumar's medical thriller Chaos (2023), which saw him play a character of a paedophile. The film was criticized for its screenplay and its length and it didn't garner much popularity or success to RK Chandan.
RK Chandan debuted as a lead actor, producer, screenwriter and lyricist through BINGO[6] in which he is acting along side Ragini Dwivedi [7]He is currently shooting for his second movie, as a lead actor, KATTAARA.
Controversies
[edit]During the peak of his TV career, online fraudsters created several fake accounts[8]in his name on Facebook and pretended to be RK Chandan and texted with his female fans and lured them to send money and obscene pictures of themselves[9]. Later RK Chandan clarified about this through his official accounts[10] and even filed an FIR with the cyber cell police against the online scammers.
