Jibril Ali Aw Mohamed Jibril Ali Aw Mohamed is a Somali diplomat, scholar, and political analyst known for his contributions to Somali diplomacy, international affairs, and regional studies. He currently serves as the First Counselor for Political Affairs at the Permanent Mission of Somalia to the United Nations in New York. Professor Aw Mohamed is also an academic with a background in African American and African Studies, as well as international relations, having taught at The Ohio State University and consulted with international organizations and governments on issues related to the Horn of Africa.
Early Life and Education Jibril Ali Aw Mohamed was born in Mogadishu, Somalia, into a prominent family. His father, Colonel Ali Aw Mohamed, was a decorated officer in the Somali National Army. Growing up in a family with a rich military and political heritage, Aw Mohamed was influenced by the socio-political landscape of Somalia.
Aw Mohamed pursued his higher education abroad, beginning with a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi. He later moved to the United States for graduate studies, earning a Master's degree in Public Policy and Management from the John Glenn College of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University.
