Palashi Theke Dhanmondi is a 2007 television film based on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of Bangladesh. It was written and directed by Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury. It stars Pijush Bandyopadhyay in the lead role as Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.[1]

Plot

In the beginning, Nawab Siraj-ud-Daula admits his mistake by visiting the grave of Nawab Alivardi Khan. Bangabandhu (Sheikh Mujibur Rahman) appears there. Between the speeches of the two, the defeat of the Nawab at the Battle of Plassey and the conspiracy behind his death comes up. Besides, the conspiracy behind the assassination of Bangabandhu and his family in 1975 is also depicted as the same scenario continuing the story.[1][2]

The film is based on the autobiographical novel "Palashi Theke Dhanmondi", by Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury. It premiered as a stage-play in London and New York in March 2004. It also premiered in Brooklyn in 2005. In the same year, the production of the film began in a studio in Kolkata and was completed in 2006.[1][3]

Release

The film was released in 2007 and also premiered in Vienna, Austria.[1][3]

Reception

The theatre in Vienne was houseful on the day of the film's premier.[3] The film was also screened at the Brady Arts Center in East London on the occasion of 89th birthday of Abdul Ghaffar Chowdhury.[4]
