The New Zealand Visitor Visa is one of the four main types of visa that Immigration New Zealand (INZ) issues under the Immigration Act 2009[1]. This visa allows travelers to stay in New Zealand for up to 9 months for the purpose of visiting or short term studying. The processing time for 80% of applicants is within 3 months. Applications can be submitted online through the INZ website, with costs starting at NZD $211.[2]
Visitor Visa Conditions
[edit]Length of Stay and Travel Conditions
[edit]The length of stay and travel conditions will depend on the type of visitor visa:
- Multiple-entry Visitor Visa: Up to 6 months in a 12-month period (calculated from the intended departure date).
- Single-entry Visitor Visa: Up to 9 months in an 18-month period (calculated from the intended departure date). Only one entry is permitted during this time. Departing New Zealand within the 18-month period will cause the visa to expire.[2][3][4]
Work Rights
[edit]The Visitor Visa allows travel to New Zealand but does not grant work rights, meaning visa holders cannot legally work in the country.[2] However, conducting business in New Zealand is permitted with a special kind of visitor visa, the Business Visitor Visa. This visa allows a stay of up to 3 months in one year and includes the option to add a partner and dependent children to the application.[5]
Permitted Activities
[edit]The Visitor Visa allows travel to New Zealand for the duration of the visa and permits study for up to 3 months. Applicants can include their partner and any dependent children up to the age of 19 in their application.[2]
Visa Requirements
[edit]Applicants must provide Immigration New Zealand with proof of their identity, good health, good character, and genuine intentions to be granted a visitor visa. They must also prove that they have sufficient funds to live on or have an acceptable sponsor. Additionally, they must declare in their application that they will cover any health or medical costs incurred in New Zealand.[2]
New English Translation Requirements
[edit]Starting June 17, 2024, all visitor visa applicants must submit certified English translations of any non-English documents they provide. These translations must be done by an approved translator who meets INZ's specific requirements.[6]
