Nebulous Nights - An Ambient Excursion Into Profound Mysteries is a live recorded ambient reinterpretation of the Profound Mysteries albums by Norwegian electronic music duo Röyksopp. The album was surprise released on 13 December 2024.[1] The album was released on streaming platforms like Spotify and digital stores like iTunes, but was also made available as a one-track 'visualiser' on YouTube[2]. The album features vocal performances from Astrid S, Alison Goldfrapp, Pixx, Jamie Irrepressible, Susanne Sundfør, Karen Harding and Maurissa Rose.
Background
[edit]Nebulous Nights is an ambient reinterpretation of the Profound Mysteries trilogy. Röyksopp both deconstructed and rebuild[3] the original albums into 30 new tracks. The album is described by EDM Identity as a “sonic journey” and “a cinematic experience [that] takes us through this imagined film scene by scene”.[4] Röyksopp stated the album “seeks to underline the importance of critical thinking and curious pondering. To foster a mindset that allows for exploration and personal growth, by not limiting one’s imagination and inquiry to a particular worldview or framework”.[5]
