Nathan Nicolau is an American author, poet, and English professor. He resides and teaches in Charlotte, North Carolina.[1] His poetry, fiction, and essays have been featured in numerous websites and magazines such as Unstamatic Micro Lit Magazine, Rokku Panku, and South Florida Poetry Journal. He is also the founder/editor-in-chief of New Note Poetry, an online poetry magazine.[2]
Early Life and Education
[edit]Nicolau attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in 2014.[3] After graduating, he attended University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he received his Master's in English in 2021.[4]
Academic Career
[edit]Nicolau currently teaches English at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is also in charge of the school's student arts and literature magazine The Hammer.[5]
Career in Literature
[edit]Nathan published his debut with Goodnight Youth: Poems in 2019. He has been featured in several online publications including Progenitor Art & Literary Journal, Orca Literary, and Chariot Press.[6]
In 2024, Nicolau published his first Novel TWO, a coming-of-age story centered on two college students while being told from alternating perspectives over the course of a single day.[7]
TWO received a positive response from critics. Erin Britton of Independent Book Review stated, "... Elucidating the importance of interpersonal connection and just how quickly strong bonds can be formed, it examines how meaning and purpose can be found in the most unlikely of places."[8]
Music Collaborations
[edit]In addition to his work in literature and academia, Nicolau's has collaborated on spoken word albums with electronic musician Brenden Sica. His first LP produced by Sica, The Gospel Accordingly, was released through the now defunct indie label Noise Jazz Records in 2021. It was re-released through Post Internet Records in 2022.[9]
On April 19, 2024, Nicolau released Post Internet Dogma also through Post Internet Records.[10]
