Nadia Darwazeh is an international arbitration lawyer and Managing Partner at the Paris office of Clyde & Co.[1] She has over 25 years of experience serving as counsel and arbitrator in commercial and investor-state disputes under various international arbitration frameworks, including the ICC, DIAC, and other institutional rules.[2] Darwazeh is recognized for her expertise in handling disputes involving the Middle East and Africa, and for her work across diverse industries such as construction, telecommunications, energy, and pharmaceuticals.[3]
Early life and education
[edit]Nadia Darwazeh holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Public Law from the University of Cambridge and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Warwick. She is dual-qualified as a Solicitor-Advocate in England and Wales and as a Rechtsanwältin (lawyer) in Germany, enabling her to practice in both common law and civil law jurisdictions.[4]
Career
[edit]Darwazeh's career spans multiple international arbitration roles, including leadership positions in prominent law firms across Paris, Frankfurt, and London. Before joining Clyde & Co, she led the Europe, Middle East, and Africa team at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), where she oversaw more than 400[5]arbitration cases.[6]
She has experience acting as counsel and arbitrator in disputes seated across the globe, including Paris, London, Geneva, Singapore, and Abu Dhabi. Her arbitration practice focuses on commercial, investment treaty, and state-related disputes, often involving cross-border partnerships, M&A transactions, and joint ventures.[7]
Darwazeh was also instrumental in establishing the Jerusalem Arbitration Center, aimed at resolving commercial disputes between Israeli and Palestinian businesses.[8]
Awards and recognition
[edit]In 2022, Nadia Darwazeh received the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA) Prize for Advocacy in International Commercial Arbitration, an award that recognizes exceptional advocacy skills in arbitration practice.[9]
She has been ranked by major legal directories such as Chambers and Partners, Legal 500, and Who’s Who Legal. Clients have described her as “innovative, pragmatic, and a real strategist,” and praised her business-oriented approach to disputes.[10]
