Mustapha Salihu (born on December 17, 1976) is a Nigerian politician who has held the position of National Vice Chairman (North-East) of the All Progressives Congress since 2016[1][2][3].
Early life and education
[edit]Mustapha Salihu was born on December 17, 1976, in Jimeta-Yola North, Adamawa State, Nigeria. He attended Yelwa-Jimeta Primary School. He holds a Ph.D. in Conflict, Peace, and Strategic Studies from Nile University[4].
Political career
[edit]Mustapha Salihu has been involved in Nigerian politics, holding the position of National Vice-Chairman (North-East) for the All Progressives Congress since 2016. In 2023, he faced a brief suspension from the party due to alleged anti-party activities[5][6][7]. However, the suspension was subsequently lifted, with the party acknowledging the error[8][9][10].
2020 All Progressives Congress crisis
[edit]In 2020, the All Progressives Congress faced a leadership crisis. Following a court order suspending National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole, a power struggle emerged within the party. Chief Victor Giadom, Deputy National Secretary at the time, obtained a court order appointing himself as acting National Chairman and Mustapha Salihu as acting National Secretary[11]. While Salihu initially supported Oshieomhole's suspension[12][13], he later publicly distanced himself from Giadom's court order, stating that he was not a party to the legal proceedings. He expressed support for the North-East zone's nomination of Architect Waziri Bulama as the acting National Secretary, emphasizing the need for party unity and a peaceful resolution to the leadership crisis.[14][15][16]
In 2022, the All Progressives Congress initiated a reconciliation tour in North-East Nigeria. Led by Comrade Mustapha Salihu, the party's National Vice Chairman for the region, the tour aimed to address internal conflicts and foster unity within the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.[17]
National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and All Progressives Congress National Vice Chairman (North-East) Mustapha Salihu commended Adamawa State All Progressives Congress officials for their unwavering loyalty and commitment to the party.
