[edit]Moorefield Girls High School was established in 1956 following the demolition of the Moorefield racecourse. The land was divided to accommodate three schools, including Moorefield Girls, James Cook Boys Technology High School, and St George School for students with disabilities. This division of land also included space for the St George TAFE and residential development.[1]

Royal Visit
[edit]In 1970, as part of the bicentennial celebrations of Captain James Cook's arrival in Australia, Queen Elizabeth II visited the nearby James Cook Boys Technology High School, and Moorefield Girls students participated in events to honor the visit.[2]
Transition to Co-Educational Model
[edit]In 2026, Moorefield Girls High School is scheduled to merge with James Cook Boys Technology High School to form a new co-educational high school for the Kogarah-Rockdale area. The merger follows community consultations held in 2023, where feedback indicated strong local support for co-educational schooling options. Approximately 65% of local families expressed a preference for a co-educational high school environment.[3]
The new co-educational school will serve students from Years 7 to 12, with plans for infrastructure upgrades to support expanded academic and extracurricular offerings. These upgrades will include enhancements to IT systems, signage, and student amenities. An experienced principal will be appointed to lead the new school, beginning preparations in early 2025.[4]
