Born in Monterey, California, he is a frequent guest at the annual National Cowboy Poetry Gatherings in Elko, Nevada, where he lived for a time while working as a buckaroo on the Spanish Ranch for legendary foreman Bill Kane.[1]

Western Horseman Magazine named two of his compositions among the 13 greatest cowboy songs of all time.[2] He maintains close personal friendships with Ramblin' Jack Elliot and cowboy troubadour Ian Tyson, who passed away in 2022. [3]

He currently lives in Montana[4], and maintains an active touring schedule throughout the United States and Europe.[5] In addition to music, he continues to travel to teach traditional horsemanship skills, and is a well-respected horseman. [6]
