Early Life and Education
[edit]Lu Zhang was born in Inner Mongolia and pursued higher education in the United States. She holds a Master of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University.
Career History and Projects
[edit]Lu Zhang is the Founder and Managing Partner of Fusion Fund, a venture capital firm she established in 2015. Fusion Fund focuses on investing in early-stage technology companies, particularly those working in healthcare, enterprise AI, industrial automation, and deep tech sectors.[1] The firm has invested in over 90 companies across the United States and Canada, achieving several notable exits.
Before founding Fusion Fund, Lu Zhang was a serial entrepreneur and materials science researcher at Stanford University.[2] After Lu exited her startup, she started to pursue a career in venture capital, supporting early-stage technology startups by establishing Fusion Fund in 2015.
Lu was able to build a team of established and well-connected professionals that have strong technical backgrounds, allowing her to build an impressive network of executives, the CXO Network, which was launched in 2018 and is now headed by Shane Wall as president.[2]
In addition to supporting early-stage startups, Lu aims to give back to the community by creating a lot of training materials and resources and sharing it with new professionals willing to learn and grow through Fusion Fund's VC Fellowship program, which was launched in 2022.[3]

[edit]Lu Zhang is a frequent speaker at technology and investment conferences, including the World Economic Forum, Future Investment Initiative (FII), Web Summit, and SuperReturn. She serves as a mentor and advisor to several tech innovation programs in Silicon Valley[8], and has been invited as a guest lecturer at Stanford University and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
In addition to her role at Fusion Fund, Zhang serves on the boards of various portfolio companies and holds leadership positions with several organizations, including the Youth Council of the Future Science Award, where she is the Chairwoman, and the Jury Board of the Cartier Women's Initiative and Young Leader Award.[9]
