2017-2018: Career beginnings

[edit]

He made his official debut as a member of Yama and Hotchicks Entertainment's ballad group IM.[2] He went on to compete on the survival competition program The Unit: Idol Rebooting Project along with bandmates Giseok, Taeeun, and Kijung.[3] The participants competed to become a member of the all-male unit UNB.[4] Lee advanced into the final round, but did not rank in the upper tier.[5]

2019–present: Produce X 101, X1, H&D, BAE173 and solo activities

[edit]

In 2019, Hangyul appeared on the cable channel Mnet's survival program Produce X 101 and gained attention. He eventually showed his growth through the show and was able to debut as a member of X1 under Swing Entertainment. He released his first album with the group in August 2019 and began official promotions. However, controversy arose when the fact that the show's production team had manipulated the votes was revealed, and the group decided to disband without any significant activities.[6]

On February 2, 2020, it was announced that Hangyul will be part of duo H&D. On April 21, the duo debuted with their first extended play Soulmate with two title tracks, "Soul" and "Goodnight", both of which they performed during their promotion period.[7]

On September 23, 2020, he was introduced as one of the members of the pre-debut boy group POCKETDOLZ. Lee is expected to be a part of this group, alongside label mate Nam Do-hyun. On September 25, 2020 it was revealed that the group's name will be BAE173. The group officially debuted on November 19, 2020 with their first mini album Intersection : Spark.[8][9]

In 2023, Heejae participated in JTBC's survival reality show Peak Time as part of Team 13:00 alongside fellow BAE173 members. They secured fifth place and embarked on the Peak Time Concert Tour as part of the Top 6.[10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17]
