If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources. This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). Katie Ann Marks is an American artist based out of Lexington, Kentucky working in stop-motion animation, directing, producing, and exhibitions[1][2]. They are most known for their stop-motion animated music videos with their characters bearing resemblance to their live counterparts.[3]
Career
[edit]In 2017, Marks was running a successful food truck in Dayton, Ohio, having an annual fundraising at the beginning of every season[4][5][6]. After the diagnosis of a benign brain mass, Marks discontinued the business and began working for SofaBurn Records.[7][8] There, they met artist Clyde Petersen from SofaBurn's roster who shepherded their animation career[9][10] as an intern on one of Petersen's projects.
Marks' first videos were mainly independent musicians within local music communities.[11][12] Their first video was for Paige Beller's "Failed Attempts and Cigarettes" in 2021.[13][14] In 2022, The Gabbard Brothers, consisting of Zachary Gabbard and Andrew Gabbard from Buffalo Killers commissioned Marks with "Pockets of Your Mind," a single from their self-titled album.[15][16] The video premiered on DittyTV.[17][18] Marks was then approached by Logan Lynn in 2023 to assistant produce and animate "Distracted", a short film accompanied to the soundtrack of his 5 track EP of the same title on Kill Rock Stars.[19][20] The film made it to the ballot for the 2024 GRAMMYS though did not make it to the nominations.[21] In 2024, indie pop band The Softies commissioned Marks with their video for "California Highway 99" on Father/Daughter Records.[22][23][24]
