Raes Karim Bux Nizamani, born on January 1, 1909, in Matli, Sindh, Pakistan, was a prominent figure in Sindhi culture, often celebrated as the “Baba-e-Saqafat-e-Sindh” (Father of Sindhi Culture), a title attributed to him by the renowned Sindhi politician G.M. Syed. Nizamani made substantial contributions to Sindhi cinema and literature, most famously as the producer of Ekta, the first-ever Sindhi film, released between 1940 and 1942. His work extended beyond film production to writing, where his autobiography, Kaei Kitab, remains a respected piece in Sindhi literature. Through these efforts, he played a critical role in preserving and promoting Sindhi heritage.
Nizamani passed away on December 31, 1982, reportedly due to a cardiac arrest. His contributions to the Sindhi film industry and cultural heritage continue to be honored through annual memorials and conferences held in his birthplace, attended by scholars, journalists, and civil society leaders. These gatherings highlight his legacy in Sindhi language promotion and cultural preservation, with awards like the Baba-e-Saqafat Award being presented in his honor.
