I Can't Let Go is the debut album by British Actor, Model and Singer-Songwriter Suki Waterhouse. Under the Sub Pop Record Label, it was released on 6 May 2022 worldwide.[1]
After coming into the spotlight at a young age as a model for top brands including Burberry,[2] Tommy Hilfiger[3] and Hugo Boss.[4] She has said previously to magazine Rolling Stone "I was really attracted to the life of a musician before i was even telling anybody that i was actually writing".[5] Suki Waterhouse signed to her label Sub Pop Records in 2021[6] which enabled her to release her first single of the album Moves. Waterhouse wrote all 10 songs on her album with help from various others including Lux Pyramid and Jane Holiday.[7]The album, Suki has said, has been in the making for an entire seven years in which she has taken inspiration from a multitude of events and eras of her life made up of break-ups, relationships and experiences. Previous singles "Brutally", "Good Looking" and "Valentine" drew comparisons to the Paisley Underground sound of Mazzy Star and to the 60s influenced girl group reimagining of bands like Stockholm's The Concretes and Glasgow's Camera Obscura.
Produced by Brad Cook, the album has influences from artists like Mazzy Star's gloomy yet fascinating style with Jack Antonoff's synthy-sunshine production. It has been said by Nylon "[The album] Sounds like what a Lana Del Rey deep cut mixed with Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides, Now" would sound like."[1]
Suki Waterhouse's album was critically acclaimed by sources including NME[1], The Independent,[8] Rolling Stone (UK),[9] The Guardian[10] and Variety[11]
