Bibliography
[edit]« | Due to the long wait for the appointment of a new bishop of Urgell after the death of Hug Ambròs de Montcada, the canons of La Seu in the session of October 12, 1587 decided to visit the entire bishopric and the archpriests were distributed. Dr. Rafael Gomis was assigned those of Tremp, Balaguer, Guissona, Agramunt, Sanaüja, Oliana and Ponts. He took Calassanç with him as a companion and secretary. Gomis made the visit between October 26 and November 16, 1587. For the visits to Oliana and Ponts he used another secretary, which suggests that Calassanç did not accompany him to Oliana and Ponts. The minutes written by Calassanç were even considered lost or misled. Now, however, the minutes of the visit to the archpriests of Tremp, Balaguer, Guissona, Agramunt and Sanaüja have been located. This sheet was with the other visit records of 1587, but as they are not signed, no one had identified the author by the handwriting.
The minutes written by Calassanç occupy 22 pages, from the second onwards, without blank pages. On pages 1, 25, 27, 29 and 30 there are some annotations by Calassanç. On page 25 there is a letter signed by Cap de Vila and followed by an annotation by Rafael Gomis. It is all in the Catalan language, except for Latin words that were used according to the custom of the time. The document is not signed, nor does Calassanç's name appear anywhere. In any case, the authorship is not doubted by the unmistakable style of the handwriting and by a sign that is sometimes found and that he used to put in the copies of the letters, in the copier book and in the minutes of the chapters of the canons. It's like a rubric without a name. In addition to the archpriests' parishes (Tremp, Balaguer, Guissona, Agramunt, Sanaüja), they visited other parishes, including Peralta de la Sal. They indicate the deficiencies they find and oblige them to repair it in a limited time. Each altar is indicated to which saint or invocation it is dedicated without giving a description of it and the benefits that exist with the name of the priest who serves them. Special attention is always paid to the tabernacle. From these acts we can know the name of each of the priests who were in each parish and the office and benefit they had. Only in the case of the visit to Peralta de la Sal, there is a moral exhortation on the customs of the faithful. It is demanded to put an end to blasphemies and to speak ill of people. |
