Haysel is a rare female given name of English origin that is a transferred use of dialectal "haysel", meaning haying season [1] . It also has origins as a German surname, meaning "wooded lowland". [2] It caught on as a female given name because of its similar phonetic sound to the given unisex & female names Hayes and Hazel. [3]

It is most used as a given name in the United States , where its first recorded use was in 1886. It's highest peak of use in the United States was 2019. [4] .
