Hivemind (YouTube Channel)
[edit]Overview
[edit]Hivemind (stylized HIVEMIND) is a YouTube channel created by Riley Savage, Graydon Weaver, and the fictional character Dignan Zazumba-zaffodil (played by Weaver.)
The channel began in 2019[1] as a place to post underground artists' music videos, artist interviews and vlogs/podcasts of Savage and Weavers' lives. It then evolved into a channel that posted music and media related games, tier lists, reviews and brackets, where the two often invite guests like EricDOA, Brad Taste in Music, gabi belle, Dev Lemons, and namely Quadeca, who has appeared on the show 21 times.
"Bits" and community
[edit]Hivemind's community has a long history of posting compilation of the channel's best "moments".[2] Eventually, Hivemind decided to start posting "Bits Brackets"[3] where Weaver and Savage would rank their funniest moments in tandem with Zazumba-daffodil.
"Dignan Zazumba-zaffodil"
[edit]The fictional character Dignan Zazumba-Zaffodil was created by Weaver in 2022, in which he states "My name's Dignan (...)"[4], possibly as a reference to the 1996 Wes Anderson film, Bottle Rocket, in which a character also named Dignan (played by Owen Wilson) says the same lines. [5]
Dignan appears to have said this line because of a large dose of a supposed "performance enhancer" which is a "dissociative"[4]
The lore surrounding the character appears completely nonsensical and nonlinear, and is extensive[6], with the still unfinished Wikitubia article reaching around 3,100 words. Zazumba-Zaffodil expands the lore on a regular basis.
He is known according to the HIVEMIND canon by the audience and hosts to smoke crack, perform illegal activities such as murder, regular fraud, "smuggling of Egyptian salamanders (over) the border into El Salvador" which is apparently "so illegal you wouldn't even believe", which he believes got him "cancelled"[6]
It's important to remember that the channel does not recognize him as a character and instead a real person, despite him obviously not being one.
Dignan has not appeared on the Hivemind channel since the 27th of May, 2024.[7]
