  • Comment: This article has been declined so many times for the same reason. Instead of fixing only the mentioned issue every decline you have to look over the entire article for promotional tone and remove them before resubmitting again. Especially after the Help Desk talk, You're starting to be quite unclear if you're here to advertise this subject only or trying to contribute. Given the persisting issues after 4 declines, I personally wouldn't hesitate to do "blow it up and start over" thing, but I guess that's too harsh. Greatmail LLC is an American webmail and email hosting service provider, founded in 2003 in Houston, Texas by Ryan Hess. The company is headquartered in Round Rock, Texas, and offers email hosting solutions tailored for businesses and resellers. Along with Swishmail and Webmail.us (now Rackspace Email), Greatmail was one of the early providers of POP3 and IMAP email hosting services.

History

[edit]

Greatmail was founded in 2003 by Ryan Hess with the goal of providing simple, reliable email hosting services. Based initially in Houston, Texas, the company became one of the early pioneers in the email hosting space, competing alongside services such as Swishmail and Webmail.us (now Rackspace Email) and is considered a key player in the industry.[1] [2]

In 2011, Greatmail expanded its offerings by introducing SMTP Hosting (initially branded as MxGrid), a service designed for businesses needing to send high volumes of transactional and marketing emails. This service became one of the company's flagship offerings.[3]

In 2017, the company formed a partnership with Mailbird giving users the opportunity to download the Mailbird email client through Greatmail's marketplace.[4]

Services

[edit]

Greatmail specializes in a variety of email hosting services aimed at businesses looking for reliable and cost-effective solutions.[5] [6] [7] The company's offerings include:

  • Basic Email Hosting: Providing businesses with reliable IMAP and POP3 email hosting solutions.[8]
  • Reseller Email Hosting: Designed for resellers who want to offer branded email services to their customers.
  • Private Email Servers: Dedicated email servers for organizations requiring enhanced privacy and control.
  • SMTP Hosting: A service for businesses that need to send high volumes of transactional or marketing emails. This service, launched in 2011, supports large-scale email delivery.[3]

Privacy and Security

[edit]

In 2016, the company updated its privacy policy, emphasizing that it does not engage in email scanning or data mining for advertising purposes. This policy update aimed to address concerns at the time about email privacy, a growing issue with larger email providers scanning emails for targeted advertising purposes.[9] In May 2018, Greatmail completed a GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) compliance audit and issued a GDPR statement on its website. [10]

Notable Developments

[edit]
  • February 2011: Greatmail launched its SMTP Hosting service, initially branded as MxGrid, to support businesses in sending bulk marketing and transactional emails.[3]
  • April 2017: Greatmail added its Groupware Edition email hosting for users looking to synchronize calendar and contacts data across multiple devices[11]
  • September 2017: Greatmail partners with Mailbird email client.[4]
  • March 2023: Greatmail shifts reseller plans and pricing for mid-size resellers to utilize dedicated email servers for increased security and expansion potential[12]

Comparison to Competitors

[edit]

Greatmail operates in the same market as other webmail and email hosting providers, including Hushmail, Fastmail, and Rackspace Email. Like other providers in this space, Greatmail maintains a strong commitment to user privacy and data protection. As an independent provider, Greatmail advocates for other small and medium sized players in the email hosting space helping educate users about email hosting providers that are not easily found in mainstream search.[13]
