The Far Eastern University – Institute of Arts and Sciences, or simply IAS, is the academic institute offering humanities, liberal arts, and sciences of the Far Eastern University. It is one of the founding institutes that comprised the university in 1934.

Much of the institute's programs are certified by the ASEAN University Network - Quality Assurance (AUN-QA)[1] and accredited Level IV by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA).[2]

Brief history

[edit]

Created after the incorporation of the university in 1934, it serves as one of its earliest institutes. With Francisco Africa as its first dean, IAS offered Liberal Arts and Pre-law programs.[3] Africa was succeeded by Filipino writer Alejandro Roces, who initiated various ideals aligning the university with Philippine culture and tradition.[4]

Through the institute, FEU publishes various faculty-led dissertations and researches in fields of biology, psychology, and communication. IAS also hosts research conferences fostering collaboration among educational institutions with FEU Global International Research Conference and FRAMEwork Asia-Pacific Communication Conference. [5][6]

In 2021, FEU has signed a partnership with the Philippine National Police, granting graduate studies opportunities to PNP personnel.[7] Due to this, IAS has been recognized by the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group for "conducting capacity building seminars to AKG personnel on stress management, public speaking, and basic journalism".[8]

In 2024, FEU produced 308 psychometricians, with 4 topnotchers, in the August Psychometricians Licensure Examination[9] and was hailed as the 9th top performing school.[10]
