Faculty of Medicine Foča of the University of East Sarajevo (Serbian Cyrillic: Медицински факултет Фоча Универзитета у Источном Сарајеву) is a constituent faculty of the University of East Sarajevo located in Foča in Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
History
[edit]The Faculty of Medicine in Foča of the University of East Sarajevo began its work on October 15, 1993, when the first students were accepted for education and the first school year 1993/94 began. with sixty enrolled students. In parallel with these activities, the curriculum was adopted, the first teachers and associates were selected and the acting dean was appointed, the Statute was prepared and the first Faculty Council was elected. From the 1993/94 academic year, 966 students were enrolled in basic studies and by the 2007/08 academic year, 135 students had graduated. Since 1993, the Faculty of Medicine has enrolled 1,052 students.
By the decision of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Srpska in 2007 (from June 28, 2007 and the amendment of the Decision from February 27, 2009), the University was given the permission to conduct teaching in the study programmes: Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Special Education and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Medicine.

The latest generation of students has entered the second study cycle at the Faculty of Medicine since the academic 2008/2009.
For U-Multirank’s 2021 edition, University of East Sarajevo, Faculty of Medicine Foča is among the Global Top 25 performers in the “Innovative forms of Assessment” in medicine category.[1]

Study in English language
[edit]At the Faculty of Medicine, specialist studies in English language[2] is organized for Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Dental Surgeon.[3][4]
Postgraduate studies
[edit]Starting from the school year 2000/01. 104 students were enrolled in postgraduate master's studies. The Master's thesis was defended by 9 Master's students, of which 8 were employed at the University or the teaching base of the Faculty of Medicine. At the Faculty of Medicine in Foča, the third cycle of studies in biomedical sciences will begin 2015/16. academic year.[5] The doctoral study was licensed by the relevant ministry, and the competition for the first candidates will be announced by October. Doctoral dissertations were defended by 13 doctoral students, of which 6 are employed at the University or the teaching base of the Faculty of Medicine. Since 2002, 104 residents have been enrolled in specialist studies, from various branches of medicine, at the Faculty of Medicine in Foča, and 20 candidates have passed the specialist exam.
