2020 Data Breach
[edit]In August 2020, Experian experienced a data breach exposing personal details of 24 million South Africans and 793,749 businesses*[3]. This breach involved sensitive information being accessed by a suspected fraudster.
How the Breach Occurred
[edit]The breach occurred when a suspected fraudster, posing as Tebogo Mogashoa, a director of Talis Holdings, obtained the data from Experian. Experian reported the incident to law enforcement and regulatory authorities. Banks worked with Experian to identify affected customers and secure their information.
