Erekle Deisadze (Georgian: ერეკლე დეისაძე, romanized: erek'le deisadze) is a Georgian musician, poet and author.[1][2][3] Deisadze has written several albums and produces electronic, rock and folk music. He wrote the albums Lare,[4] Am Enit Amen,[5] Khakhuri and Dgemde.[6][7][8]
Biography and music
[edit]Deisadze was born in the city of Kutaisi in the country of Georgia, on 2 August 1990.[9] In 2008 Deisadze entered the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University where he majored in documentary and film direction.
In 2010 Deisadze started writing[10] and published a book called Secret Fuck-Up,[11] which caused mass outrage in Georgia at the time. There were protests that demanded the book be banned, especially amongst members of the Orthodox church. There were reports that the outrage was very aggressive towards him in social circles and for a considerable period Deisadze had to go into hiding. In religious circles, the book was baptized as blasphemy and an insult to religion as well as being banned by the church. There were also rallies organised to support Deisadze.
In 2012, he founded the punk band 40 Kilometers. Filmed political clips. He took part in the clip "The system must be destroyed", which was dedicated to the scandal in the Georgian penitentiary system, and Georgian artists protested against violence in prisons.
In 2013 he published a novel called The Cleaner, which was nominated for the Saba literary prize award for the best novel of the year. In 2015 he published another novel called Russian School Holidays which told the story of the Russian-Georgian War.[9][12] He currently has published 11 books.[11]
