Donore Parish is a Catholic parish located in County Meath, Ireland. It includes the village of Donore, a village in the Boyne Valley, not far from the town of Drogheda. The parish forms part of the Diocese of Meath[1] and is administratively linked with nearby parishes such as Duleek Parish.[2]
Location
[edit]The village of Donore lies approximately 4km west of Drogheda and about 18km from Navan. Donore is positioned along the road between Drogheda and Brú na Bóinne, which is known for the nearby Newgrange and Knowth passage tombs.[3][failed verification]
Historically known as Dun Uabair,[4] meaning "the fort of pride", the village's name suggests that its foundation dates back to the early Christian period (400-1200 AD), likely indicating the presence of a ring fort in the vicinity.[4]
History
[edit]The Catholic church of the Nativity of Our Lady (commonly referred to as St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church) is located in the centre of Donore village.[5] The church was built around 1840 and remains the spiritual center of the parish.[4][tone]

Its long history reflects the village's strong Catholic heritage.[6][tone]
