Digital Classics Online (short title: DCO) is a free e-journal for authors and users that publishes articles from the field of ancient history and related areas of classical studies in connection with the application or development of methods from the digital humanities. All articles are peer-reviewed and made freely available according to the open access principle under a CC-BY licence chosen by the authors themselves. Publication languages are German, English, French and Italian.
With funding from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DCO was founded in 2015 at the Chair of Ancient History at Leipzig University under the leadership of Charlotte Schubert; Krešimir Matijević has been the managing editor since 2024. In addition to the regular annual issue, whose articles can appear throughout the year thanks to the online publication format, themed special issues are also published. Monographs are published in the journal's series, Digital Classics Books.
